Wegener, Gerda

(3/15/1885 Copenhagen- 6/28/1940 Fredericksberg) (Denmark / France)

   Painter and commercial artist. Studied at the Kunstakademie in Copenhagen. Her signature is a black mask. She was associated with the French magazine Eros. She produced a significant amount of erotic art, almost all of it depicting cartoon-like elegantly dressed and costumed women playfully engaged in sex. For instance, a suite of 12 aqau-relles entitled "Les Delassements d'Eros" ["The diversions of Eros"] published in 1918, then reissued in 1927 with commissioned Sonnets by Alexandre Verineau.
